Kayaking the Mattaponi

Spend the day kayaking the Mattaponi river in King & Queen county from Rainbow Acres Campground. The river here is tidal and the creeks behind the campground will be affected so check your local tide charts for the best date and time.

Scenery along the banks of the river is full of wildlife and beautiful plants. Keep a sharp eye out for bald eagle’s nest near the campground. Marsh grass and laurel populate the sometimes muddy banks of the river.

Plenty of fishing can be enjoyed all year round. Whether its live bait or artificial lures you can catch perch, brim, bass and catfish. Watch out for the gar fish stealing your lures too!
